“We talked about a large project that would relate to a kind of special fort – a place where not only the American forces would develop, but also a place of growth for the economy, business, and cooperation between technology companies based in the U.S. that would like to invest, as well as with Polish companies benefiting from U.S. technological potential,” said President Karol Nawrocki in an interview with Michał Rachoń on Telewizja Republika.
“Donald Trump’s declaration that he has no plans to reduce the American troop component in Poland is very important. The visit itself, arranged in such a short time, and the invitation of the Polish president to Washington, shows that for the U.S. we are a key partner on NATO’s eastern flank and in the entire EU. For me, this is also a very important declaration by the President, which in a way closes the debate that has been ongoing in public opinion since February. This came up in our official talks, but was also addressed during the plenary discussions, where the possibility of expanding that component was discussed,” President Karol Nawrocki said in the interview.
Asked about what this expansion would look like – regarding infrastructure and the families of American soldiers – he replied:
“Part of these talks was not only the matter of increasing the American military presence in Poland, but we also discussed a large project that would relate to a kind of special fort – a place where not only the American forces would develop, but also a place of growth for the economy, business, and cooperation between technology companies based in the U.S. that would like to invest, as well as with Polish companies benefiting from U.S. technological potential,” Nawrocki explained, stressing that “the discussion referred to the permanent presence of a major project, which I hope will be realized during my presidency and Donald Trump’s presidency, in cooperation also with the Ministry of National Defense.”
“The proposal that was made is very important and valuable for Poland. On the one hand, it is tied to the possibility of expanding the American troop component, and on the other hand, to the creation of a project around which this expansion would be possible and necessary,” the president added.
