“A weight off my shoulders!” Tusk pleased with Magyar’s victory. He spoke about… “authoritarian rule”

“Everyone feared there was an inevitable trend – that authoritarian regimes, corrupt regimes, that this was their time. No, it is not. First Warsaw, then Bucharest, Chisinau, now Budapest. I am glad that this part of Europe is showing that we are not doomed to corrupt and authoritarian governments,” said Donald Tusk, referring to the results of the parliamentary elections in Hungary. As he added – “a weight off my shoulders.”

The grouping of Péter Magyar, TISZA – according to results calculated from nearly 99 percent of counted votes – can expect 138 seats in the 199-seat Hungarian parliament. The Fidesz – KDNP coalition led by Viktor Orbán received 55 seats. This means that after 16 years of uninterrupted rule by Fidesz under Orbán, a political change is taking place in Hungary.

Magyar’s electoral victory is being commented on by world leaders on social media.

Tusk: this is all that’s on my mind

Donald Tusk, Prime Minister of Poland, who is currently on a visit to South Korea, also expressed his satisfaction with Magyar’s victory.

First, he posted a short video on social media titled: “welcome back to Europe!”

A brief press conference by the head of government was also held in Seoul, during which he said: “right now Hungary is all I have in my mind, and in my heart, and there is joy. For us this was very important, for many reasons. Starting with Polish-Hungarian relations, the situation in Europe, our funds that Orbán had been blocking – for Poland, but also for Ukraine.”

As he reported, he spoke with Péter Magyar. The conversation was to concern not only words of congratulations, but also the politician’s planned visit to Poland. “As you know, a long time ago he indicated Warsaw as his first visit, for fairly obvious reasons. I think our relations will be absolutely exceptional” – Tusk stated.

“The whole world is excited about this election result. This shows there is no such trend. Everyone feared there was an inevitable trend – that authoritarian regimes, corrupt regimes, that this was their time. No, it is not. First Warsaw, then Bucharest, Chișinău, now Budapest. I am glad that this part of Europe is showing that we are not doomed to corrupt and authoritarian governments,” he continued, adding that “the government of Viktor Orbán has, unfortunately, become such after many years in power.”

In the next part of his statement, he touched on… President Karol Nawrocki and Law and Justice (PiS).

“And something that is impressive and is a light for all those who do not believe in their own strength: all possible forces conspired against Péter Magyar and his party TISZA. Including our President Nawrocki and Chairman Kaczyński. Not to mention more powerful figures, and yet they won. Anyone who doubts themselves received a great lesson today that you must always believe in yourself and everything is possible. A weight off my shoulders, because I was afraid until the very end,” he said.
