According to Halicki, PiS Has “Betrayed Poland Again” for Wanting to Remove von der Leyen. Jaki Responds!

Civic Platform (PO) MEP Andrzej Halicki stated that Law and Justice (PiS) MEPs who signed a motion to dismiss European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen have “once again betrayed Poland and the Polish people” and are pursuing “a strategy of destroying everything that could be a Polish success.” His remarks prompted a response from PiS MEP Patryk Jaki, who accused the PO representative of misleading the public and emphasized that Thursday’s vote is about “whether one supports the German Commission President and her Green Deal policies or not.”

PiS MEPs Want to Dismiss Ursula von der Leyen

On Thursday, the European Parliament is expected to vote on a motion of no confidence against the European Commission. The motion was prepared by the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group and was also signed by representatives of other political factions in the EP, including Patriots for Europe, Europe of Sovereign Nations, and several independent MEPs. Romanian MEPs from the AUR party collected the signatures, and the majority of PiS MEPs have signed the motion.

The motion argues that the Commission has been “abusing Article 122 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union as the legal basis for the SAFE regulation, a €150 billion defense financing initiative.” According to the initiators, this represents “a serious breach of competence and a distortion of the intended purpose of the article, which is reserved for exceptional economic circumstances.”

Motion to Dismiss von der Leyen. Halicki (PO): “PiS Has Betrayed Poland Again”

Civic Platform MEPs held a press conference defending von der Leyen and attacking PiS politicians. Andrzej Halicki declared that PiS had “once again betrayed Poles and Poland.”

“This motion was prepared by the most pro-Russian factions in the European Parliament, including the anti-Polish AfD, Romanians with proven Kremlin funding and ties to KGB representatives. And it was signed by PiS representatives,” he added.

He argued that “the motion essentially targets one key achievement: the greatest success of the Polish EU presidency — halting the funding of the defense industry, strengthening the EU’s external border, and financing the strategic East Shield program with EU funds.”

He also stated: “This proves that for Law and Justice, the worse things get, the better. It’s a strategy of destroying anything that could be a Polish success, Polish pride, or a Polish achievement. As representatives of Civic Platform and the Polish People’s Party (PSL), we strongly oppose this and will defend these vital decisions, which are essential for Poland’s future security — and for the security of all of Europe. The only ones who could benefit from such a motion are in the Kremlin, in Moscow — this document serves only their interests,” Halicki said.

“How They Lie” — Jaki Responds to Halicki

PiS MEP Patryk Jaki responded to Halicki’s claims, stating that “the motion obviously says nothing about defense — it’s solely about a flawed procedure that sidelines the European Parliament from decision-making. In fact, the European People’s Party (EPP) first raised this issue and voted accordingly (in the JURI committee).”

“There is nothing in the proposal about the East Shield program — just as the Shield itself doesn’t even exist. The motion, as its authors pointed out, mainly concerns migration policy, the Green Deal tightening plans, and scandals within the European Commission,” he noted.

“In her speech yesterday, Ursula von der Leyen herself emphasized that she is proud of her climate policy and new plans. Thursday’s vote will be about whether you support the German Commission President and her green agenda — or not,” Jaki concluded.
