Adam Wasiak is the new head of State Forests. “Dorożała can start packing now”

The Minister of Climate and Environment, Paulina Hennig-Kloska, announced on Tuesday that she appointed Adam Wasiak as the Director General of State Forests (LP). Earlier, on Monday, the head of the Ministry of Climate and Environment dismissed Witold Koss from this position. “I would advise Minister Dorożała [Mikołaj, Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment] to start collecting boxes from the trash. They might come in handy,” wrote Jacek Liziniewicz on social media.

On Monday, Minister Hennig-Kloska removed Witold Koss from the position of Director General of LP. Koss had led State Forests since January 2024 and had, among other things, modified the timber sales system.

Adam Wasiak was the Director General of State Forests from 2012 to 2015, and between 2017 and 2024, he served as Deputy Director of the Office of Forest Management and Forest Geodesy. Since 2024, he has been the Director of the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Radom.

The climate ministry reported that the new Director General of State Forests graduated from the Faculty of Forestry at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences and completed postgraduate studies at the University of Warsaw as well as an MBA course at the Leon Koźmiński Academy in Warsaw. He also holds a diploma from the Polish Institute of International Affairs. Wasiak is also the project manager of Wetlands Green Life, a LIFE EU initiative aimed at the restoration and protection of wetlands, peatlands, and marshes in Poland. The State Forests National Forest Holding states on its website that it is the largest organization in the European Union managing forests owned by the State Treasury.

Adam Wasiak will be the Director General of State Forests. I interpret this change as an attempt to restore balance and create a counterweight to the actions of the lunatics who have entrenched themselves in the Ministry of Climate and Environment. Adam Wasiak has a pretty strong position. He once described himself, when asked whose man he was – ‘that he is a man of State Forests.’ Maybe he will serve as a shield for ordinary foresters against ideological madness. I would advise Minister Dorożała to start collecting boxes from the trash. They might come in handy,” commented Jacek Liziniewicz, a journalist from Gazeta Polska Codziennie.
