Roald Hoffmann is a Polish-American who was born into a Jewish family in Złoczów, Poland (now Ukraine). He is also a theoretical chemist who won the 1981 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He has also published plays and poetry since 1970s. Also, he is the Frank H. T. Rhodes Professor of Humane Letters, Emeritus, at Cornell University, in Ithaca, New York.
Czesław Miłosz was a Polish-American poet, prose writer, translator, and diplomat. Regarded as one of the great poets of the 20th century, he won the 1980 Nobel Prize in Literature. The Nobel Prize committee distinguished Miłosz as someone "who with uncompromising clear-sightedness voices man's exposed condition in a world of severe conflicts". Miłosz's role as a translator and popularizer of Polish poetry cannot be overestimated. In his Nobel lecture, Miłosz described his view of the role of the poet and lamented the tragedies of the 20th century.
Isaac Bashevis Singer was a Polish-born American Jewish writer who wrote and published first in Yiddish and later translated himself into English with the help of editors and collaborators. The Nobel Prize in Literature 1978 was awarded to him "for his impassioned narrative art which, with roots in a Polish-Jewish cultural tradition, brings universal human conditions to life".
Menachem Begin, known also as Mieczysław Biegun, was an Israeli politician, founder of Likud and the sixth Prime Minister of Israel. He grew up in Poland and studied at the University of Warsaw. He received the Nobel Prize in 1978 "for the Camp David Agreement, which brought about a negotiated peace between Egypt and Israel".
Andrzej Wiktor Schally, also known as Andrew W. Schally, was born on November 20, 1926, in Wilno, Poland. During World War II, Schally had to leave Poland and live among the Jewish-Polish Community in Romania. In 1945, he moved via Italy and France to England and Scotland. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by nearly 20 universities, incl. Jagiellonian University. In 2021, he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.

On the occasion of the centenary of the Academy of Special Education in Warsaw, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland established 2022 as the Year of Maria Grzegorzewska. She pioneered systematic research on pedagogy directed at the disabled and established its grounds. Believing a human being to be a psycho-physical unity, she put forward a claim for a global approach towards any aberration from the norm. She is the patron of Maria Grzegorzewska University which invites to the International Conference of the PERSON series on December 15. It commemorates the 100th anniversary of the University.

European Masters Weightlifting is the Olympic sport of weightlifting for persons 35 years old and older. This year, the competitions took place on August 20-28 in Raszyn, Masovian Voivodeship. Over 670 female and male competitors from all over Europe applied to participate in the event. The event was divided into 7 categories. Our Polish athletes managed to score a place in the top three in almost every category.
Today, on August 28, the third and the last competition of the Polish Cup Drone Racing 2022 series takes place in Cracow. In addition to the final competition of pilots, the participants can have fun in the so-called education zone and try a drone simulator. The drone specialists tell about the qualifications to fly a drone legally and safely in the education zone. However, when it comes to flying methods, various types of drones are presented in urban spaces. Also, thanks to the drone simulator, it is possible to see how to fly various aircraft with the help of special control equipment. It is worth mentioning that a drone simulator is the first step toward flying a real drone.
This weekend, the 16th edition of Days of Wine is held in Jasło, Subcarpathia Province. A special climate of the event offers interesting conversations and positive emotions accompanied by music. On August 26, two Polish athletes advanced to the finals of the Diamond League! A great performance at the Athletissima annual athletics meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland. The 24-year-old European Championship Vice-Champion Natalia Kaczmarek did not manage to repeat her latest excellent results from August (49.86 in Chorzów and 49.94 in Munich). However, she took 5th position (51.03), and together with Michał Rozmys, advanced to the grand final of the Diamond League in Zurich on September 7-8. Michał Rozmys was 5th in the 1500m race and broke his life record by 0.24 seconds. This is still the 2nd best result in the history of Polish athletics in this competition.
A great discovery on the archaeological, ethnographical and ecological project of Ga'ab El Lagia Church in Sudan was detected by the Polish researcher. During the excavations in the Ga'ab El Lagia church, Ph.D. Magdalena Łaptaś from The Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw documented paintings showing, among others Our Lady with Christ and two archangels. The church and the paintings are about a thousand years old.

Karolina Lanckorońska was one of those people who did not hesitate and devoted their lives to the motherland, Poland. She was able to sacrifice everything, and at the same time, in her modesty, she considered it completely natural and not worth mentioning. "She was an art historian and collector, highly meritorious to Polish culture, a soldier of the Home Army, a prisoner of the Ravensbrück concentration camp, an activist of the Polish community in Italy." Karolina Lanckorońska's legacy are only broadening the horizons publications but also the care for outstandingly talented young researchers.
