“After Returning from the USA”. Presidential Spokesperson on Karol Nawrocki’s Next Step

“After returning from the USA, the President will inform about actions regarding the Constitutional Tribunal,” Karol Nawrocki’s spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz stated on social media.

On March 13, the ruling coalition passed a vote appointing six new judges to the Constitutional Tribunal. The procedure faced sharp criticism, as it violates the Sejm’s Rules of Procedure and the principle of individual judicial terms set out in Article 194, paragraph 1 of the Constitution. President Karol Nawrocki, as the guardian of the Constitution, is refraining from accepting the oath from the candidates and has not declared automatic consent to their appointment. The Head of the President’s Chancellery Zbigniew Bogucki sent a letter to the Marshal of the Sejm Włodzimierz Czarzasty, emphasizing that the procedure raises serious doubts not only procedurally but also constitutionally.

In the context of the planned takeover of the Constitutional Tribunal by the coalition on December 13, there were even suggestions about the possible use of forceful measures. Unofficial information also reached journalists at Niezalezna.pl indicating that Waldemar Żurek’s team might be preparing an alternative, backup seat for the Tribunal.

Leśkiewicz: the President will address the matter after returning from the USA

The question remains what decision President Nawrocki will make on this matter. His spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz provided an answer today on social media.

From March 27-30 (Friday to Monday), the President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki will travel to the United States. The itinerary includes a visit to the Lockheed Martin factory producing F-35 fighter jets, participation in the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas, and a meeting with the Polish community in Texas, combined with the awarding of state decorations, Leśkiewicz’s post on platform X reads.

The presidential spokesperson added that “after returning from the USA, the President will inform about actions regarding the Constitutional Tribunal.”
