First Algal Blooms of the Season
Rising temperatures have caused the first algal blooms of the season, leading to beach closures in the Tricity area. Currently, swimming is prohibited at certain beaches in Gdańsk, Gdynia, and Sopot, marking these as the only closed beaches along the entire Polish coast.
Red Flags in Gdańsk, Sopot, and Gdynia
Due to the algal bloom, three beaches have been closed. Red flags are now flying at the beaches in Gdańsk Brzeźno, Sopot’s Łazienki Południowe, and Gdynia Śródmieście, indicating that the water is unsafe for recreational activities.
Health Advisory
The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate has issued a warning that the water is currently unsuitable for swimming and other recreational activities at these locations. Despite the closures, these are the only beaches affected by the algal blooms along the Polish coastline.
