“There was no need to lobby the Americans for Donald Tusk to participate in these talks instead of President Karol Nawrocki,” said Marcin Przydacz, Head of the Office of International Policy, on Polsat News.
On Wednesday, the President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, took part in a videoconference with Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky, and leaders of the European Union countries. The discussions focused on the war in Ukraine and relations with Russia.
The teleconference took place two days before a meeting between the American president, Donald Trump, and the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, which is scheduled for Friday in Alaska. However, Donald Tusk, the head of the government, did not participate, which sparked numerous comments in the public sphere.
Marcin Przydacz, Head of the Office of International Policy of the President of Poland, referred to this topic today. As he emphasized – “there was no need to lobby the Americans for Donald Tusk to participate in these talks instead of President Karol Nawrocki.”
“I understand that the German side strongly pushed for it to be Donald Tusk, but the Americans were the organizers, and they chose the participants,” he added. “In our relations with the Americans, we are close enough that we simply decided who would represent Poland. The government side has no access to the White House; apparently, nobody talks to them. I think Donald Tusk is already aware that he will not settle anything with President Trump, nobody wants him there.”
Marcin Przydacz also noted that President Nawrocki “spoke during the teleconference with world leaders about the need to use strong language and recalled today’s anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw, the victory over Bolshevik Russia, where Poles, also supported by Ukrainians, repelled the Bolshevik onslaught, sending a message to Donald Trump: Mr. President, Russia is not unstoppable. We proved it 105 years ago that even a reborn, weak Polish state, through determination and its strength, was able to stop the Bolshevik onslaught.”
Trump-Putin meeting
Trump and Putin are to meet at the USAF base at 11 a.m. local time, which is 9 p.m. in Poland. According to the Kremlin, the two leaders will first meet one-on-one, followed by delegation talks over lunch.
