“No paths have definitively diverged,” said former president Andrzej Duda when asked how he would react if Law and Justice were to propose that he run for prime minister.
“In politics, paths do not part in that way. Anyone with some experience and common sense knows that circumstances can vary and situations can differ. Please remember that Law and Justice put me forward as its candidate and supported me, thanks to which I won the presidential election. And it was Law and Justice and the United Right that won the presidential election,” the former president said in an interview with Fakt.
“I would not have won if they hadn’t been there. And they would not have won if I hadn’t been there,” he emphasized.
He added that “if necessary, we would certainly be able to find common ground.” “However, it is not known whether such a proposal will be made. If such a proposal comes, I will consider it,” he announced. He stressed, however, that he has “no political ambition” to be head of government.
Relations with Jarosław Kaczyński
The former president was also asked about his relations with Jarosław Kaczyński, the leader of Law and Justice.
“I do not have ongoing contact with President Kaczyński. But if, for political reasons, such contact is needed, then of course it will happen immediately. I do not have this contact because today there is no need to get in touch. At the moment, I am simply not involved in the kind of politics that President Kaczyński and Law and Justice politicians are engaged in today. Deliberately so,” he said.
He added, however, that “at any moment one can pick up the receiver and call. And there will be no problem with that whatsoever.”
And with Karol Nawrocki?
Asked about his relations with President Karol Nawrocki, he replied: “When necessary, we meet.”
“It is not the case that President Nawrocki calls me to seek advice. Frankly speaking, we do not discuss such matters over the phone,” he said.
“If there is a need for me to express an opinion on a given issue because the president wants me to do so, then we simply meet and talk,” he concluded.
