While visiting Lithuania, Andrzej Duda, during a press conference held prior to his meeting with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, focused primarily on Poland’s security. He was also asked to comment on the recent elections.
Duda emphasized the importance of high voter turnout and expressed his gratitude to the more than 70 percent of Polish citizens who participated in the vote.
“Through platform X, I was among the first to congratulate Karol Nawrocki on his victory and to thank all those who took part in the elections. As recently as yesterday, I was encouraging people to vote, highlighting the importance of increasing turnout — and I am deeply grateful to everyone who cast their ballot. In the second round, over 20 million votes were cast. According to the State Electoral Commission, a lead of more than 370,000 votes secured the win. This is a significant margin — comparable to the population of a large Polish city. The victory is undisputed and unequivocal. I am pleased by this result, especially as it comes just ahead of the Bucharest Nine Summit. The strong support from the Polish people for Karol Nawrocki — who has pledged to continue the policies of President Lech Kaczyński and myself — confirms the direction we have set. Strengthening our national security must continue through our alliance with the United States and by increasing our defense budget.”
Duda also stressed the importance of continuing to develop international alliances and diplomatic relations. He expressed his hope that the incoming president would participate in the upcoming Bucharest Nine deliberations.
“Karol Nawrocki’s victory brings me a sense of reassurance, as I am confident that he will continue the policies that have reinforced our national defense. I also believe the new president will pursue a policy focused on developing our infrastructure. For these reasons, I view the election result with calm and optimism.”
Duda also announced that upon returning to Poland, he will meet with Karol Nawrocki to discuss the current political and geopolitical situation in person.
