The annual survey of Sunday religious practices in Poland, including counting Catholics attending Mass and receiving Communion, will be held on October 13. This tradition occurs once a year in all parishes across the country, and is aimed at assessing the participation of Catholics in religious services.
Increase in Participation
According to the latest report from the Institute for Catholic Church Statistics (ISKK) for 2022, 29.5% of Catholics in Poland participated in Sunday Mass (dominicantes), while 13.9% received Communion (communicantes). This marks a slight increase compared to 2021, when the participation rate was 28.3% for Mass and 12.9% for Communion. The growth suggests a modest resurgence in religious involvement.
The ISKK, founded in 1972 by the Pallottine Fathers, is Poland’s oldest independent research center focusing on religiosity and Catholicism. In collaboration with the Central Statistical Office of Poland, ISKK provides valuable insights into the country’s religious landscape. Its research serves as a critical tool for understanding trends and shifts in Catholic practice.
