Yesterday, between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m., the Border Guard spotted a Russian trawler near a gas pipeline close to the port of Szczecin, Interior Ministry spokeswoman Karolina Gałecka reported.
The roughly 70-meter vessel was sailing from the direction of Russia and drifted about 300 meters near a platform where gas is brought ashore.
“Around 6:30 a.m., the ship stopped for about 20 minutes near the pipeline. At that point, the Border Guard immediately took action, namely by contacting the vessel via the radio system. The unit then complied with the instruction […] that is, to immediately leave the pipeline area,” she said.
“Yesterday’s situation ended safely. The trawler immediately left the pipeline zone, complied with the Border Guard’s order, and I can confirm that the Border Guard’s actions were taken very, very quickly,” Gałecka declared.
She declined to specify near which pipeline the trawler was located.
“These are not classified details, but information that would be better if the Russian side did not have access to,” she explained.
