As Niezależna news outlet reported on October 10, 2024, the Volyn Division of the Ukrainian Border Guard, along with customs officials, thwarted an attempt to illegally transport drugs across the Ukrainian-Polish border.
“At the Ustylug checkpoint, a Border Guard dog reacted to a car driven by a Polish citizen entering Ukraine. The dog indicated the SUV’s back seat. Following a thorough inspection of the indicated location, inspectors found three bags containing substances resembling narcotics,” stated the Ukrainian Border Guard on their official profile.
“Rapid analysis confirmed that one of the packages contained amphetamines, while the other two contained cannabis,” they added.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Maciej Szyszko, an associate of Donald Tusk, then-president of PZU Ukraine.
After the drug scandal, Szyszko was dismissed from his position, albeit briefly. According to onet.pl, today he was reappointed as the president of PZU Ukraine.
“Mr. Szyszko received a recommendation to lead the company following a competitive selection process conducted by PZU’s management board. Maciej Szyszko is a highly regarded manager with substantial experience operating in the Ukrainian market,” informed Zbigniew Baranowski, PZU’s Director of Media Relations, as quoted by Onet.
