Arctic Frost in Poland. As Low as Minus 25 Degrees Celsius!

The coming days will bring a frosty spell. While in western Poland temperatures should not drop below minus 5 degrees C, in the east it will be much colder – thermometers may show minus 18 degrees C, and locally in Podkarpacie even minus 25 degrees!

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management has issued warnings of severe frost for a large part of the country. The lowest temperatures are expected at night, especially in eastern Poland.

On Sunday, cloud cover will be low. Maximum temperatures will range from minus 9 degrees C in the east of the country, through about minus 7 degrees C in the centre, to between 0 and 2 degrees C in the west. Winds will be light to moderate, and in the southwest locally gusty from the southeast and east. In the Sudeten Foreland, gusts will reach 60 km/h, while high in the Sudetes they may reach as much as 120 km/h.

The night from Sunday to Monday will be very cold. In the eastern part of the country, temperatures will drop to minus 18 degrees C, and locally in Podkarpacie, in valleys, depressions and basins, even to minus 25 degrees C. In central Poland, thermometers will show from minus 10 to minus 15 degrees C, and in the west from minus 2 to minus 5 degrees C. Winds will be light to moderate, from the southwest.

In connection with the weather situation, IMGW has issued first-degree severe frost warnings for the following voivodeships: Lublin, Małopolska, Mazovia, Podlaskie, Podkarpackie, Świętokrzyskie, Warmia-Masuria, and for parts of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Łódź, Silesian and Pomeranian voivodeships. A second-degree severe frost alert has been issued for Bieszczady County in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship – this is where the lowest temperatures are expected. First-degree strong wind warnings have also been issued for parts of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.

Monday and Tuesday: still freezing!

On Monday, maximum temperatures in eastern Poland will range from minus 4 to minus 6 degrees C, in central Poland from minus 1 to minus 5 degrees C, and in the west from plus 3 to plus 5 degrees C. Winds will be light, mostly from the southeast.

The night from Monday to Tuesday will again be mostly clear or cloudless. Minimum temperatures in the east will once more drop to minus 18 degrees C, and locally in Podkarpacie they may fall even to minus 25 degrees C. In central Poland, temperatures will range from minus 7 to minus 10 degrees C, and in the west from minus 3 to minus 5 degrees C.

On Tuesday it will remain sunny, with little or no cloud cover. Maximum temperatures in the east will be around minus 5 degrees C, in the centre minus 3 degrees C, and in the west from plus 2 to plus 4 degrees C. Winds will be light, at most moderate in the west, with speeds near the border reaching up to 45 km/h.
