Assassination Attempt in Washington. Statement from the Chancellery of the President of Poland

“This kind of incident is extremely dangerous – both for life and health, but on the other hand it is also very dangerous for the stability of American politics and the countries of the free world – I am referring to transatlantic relations,” said the Head of the Chancellery of the President of Poland, Zbigniew Bogucki, commenting on the assassination attempt in Washington.

At the Washington Hilton, during a formal dinner hosted by President Donald Trump and the U.S. administration with White House correspondents, an assassination attempt took place. An armed attacker tried to break through a security checkpoint, firing at one of the Secret Service agents. He was detained. None of the event participants were injured. The attacker was identified as 31-year-old California teacher Cole Allen. After being detained, he stated that his target had been members of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration.

Today on Polsat News, the Head of the Chancellery of the President of Poland, Zbigniew Bogucki, when asked about the situation, assessed that everything concerning the U.S. president – including this incident – “has a direct impact on the global situation.” He emphasized that he would not want to imagine what might have happened if anything had occurred to Donald Trump. He added that such events are “very dangerous for the stability of American politics and the politics of the countries of the free world.”

The Head of the Chancellery recalled that a similar situation took place during Trump’s campaign rally in Pennsylvania in July 2024. “If that bullet had gone in a different direction, President Trump would not be alive. In this case, everything indicates that the protection of the President of the United States worked properly,” he noted.

According to Bogucki, “political emotions” play a significant role in the context of such events, and they are running very high in the United States, Poland, and Europe. As he added, this is a responsibility that lies with politicians, the media, journalists, and all those who comment on political matters. He stressed that at this point, we do not know the “full and real reasons” behind the attacker’s actions.

He also recalled the murder of Charlie Kirk and the wave of hate that was triggered following his death.
