“At Least Don’t Get in the Way.” Tusk Attacks the President Again. He Gets a Blunt Response

Prime Minister Donald Tusk once again launched an attack on President Karol Nawrocki on the X platform. “If the President does not want to help or is unable to do so, then at least he should not get in the way,” wrote the head of the December 13 coalition government. He quickly received a strong counter from politicians and commentators.

Tusk Heads to Berlin and Attacks the President

“I will soon meet with the leaders of other European states in Berlin in order, God willing, to possibly finalize talks on a ceasefire in Ukraine. Here in Poland, especially in this part of Poland, we know best the value of peace and the price of war. But by taking part in various meetings, formats, and discussions, by helping Ukraine in its military effort, by seeking a way out of the tragic impasse in which Eastern Europe has found itself, at the same time we are building Poland’s strength every day,” Tusk announced.

The head of government also published a post in which he once again attacked the President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki.

The international game being played today is for a very high stake: Poland’s security and Ukraine’s independence. If the President does not want to help or is unable to do so, then at least he should not get in the way, he wrote. A wave of critical comments immediately appeared under his post. Below we quote selected entries:

  • “And the only table you sit at is the one in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister (KPRM). I won’t even mention international formats,”
  • “And today it is the Dutchman, the Frenchman, and the German in Berlin who decide this, because that’s your current negotiating position – posts on X,”
  • “When no one ‘gets in the Prime Minister’s way,’ the results are spectacular: the eastern flank North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit is organized by Finland, and talks about peace in Ukraine are taking place entirely over our heads. Poland is pursuing a completely passive policy. Brilliant job,”
  • “Bold words, coming from the architect of the ‘reset’ with Russia, who was dismantling the army in the east,”
  • “Am I the only one with the impression that exactly the same opinion is held by Starmer, Merz, Macron, Zelensky, but about Tusk?”
  • “The President of Poland has a much stronger mandate from society to decide than you do,”
  • “And how would you describe someone who begs to be added to a document from talks to which no one wanted him?”

For several days now, a variety of meetings of the world’s most important leaders devoted to ending the war in Ukraine have been taking place. Donald Tusk, who in 2023 promised that “no one would outplay him,” has so far not taken part in them. Only today is the Prime Minister traveling to Berlin. Today’s talks are to concern, among other things, security guarantees, the reconstruction of the country, and a political agreement to end the war.
