ATP in Marseille: Hurkacz to appear in the semi-finals

    Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Hubert Hurkacz has reached the semi-finals of the ATP event in Marseille after beating Mikael Ymer in three sets, 6:3, 3:6, and 7:6, on Friday afternoon.

Hurkacz began his run at the Open 13 Provence in Marseille. On his way to the semi-finals, the Polish tennis player beat many ‘lower’ ranked players, but the matches were not always easy, as Mikael Ymer proved in Friday’s match.

Friday’s clash started not so well for the Pole. Ymer’s breakthrough happened already in the first game. The Swede set very difficult conditions. He cleverly used the open spaces and played with shortcuts. Fortunately, the Pole was up to the task and eventually won the first set.

In the next set, the Pole, unfortunately, played imprecise quite often and sent the ball out of play many times. The next part of the set was basically a formality. The Swede felt extremely confident and won 3:6.

The last set was extremely evenly matched. Ymer kept pace with Hurkacz, who lacked effectiveness in key moments. This meant that a tie-break was needed to decide the match. The Swede led for most of it. At 5:6, he even had a match ball, but then Hurkacz spectacularly turned the match around, winning three consecutive balls and triumphing over the Swede 6:3, 3:6, 7:6.

The Pole’s rival in the semi-finals of the ATP tournament in Marseille will be Alexander Bublik.

    Hubert Hurkacz – Mikael Ymer 2-1 (6-3, 3-6, 7-6)
