Bąkiewicz on His Stay at a Bundeswehr Hospital: False Discharge Papers and Being Forced Out in the Middle of the Night

“I immediately thought it was about preventing certain things from leaking out. I assumed the medical staff would be protecting the reputation of the German police. And that is exactly what happened,” Robert Bąkiewicz said on Republika TV, pointing to what he believes were the reasons for sending him to a military hospital in Berlin.

Telewizja Republika was the only media outlet that covered from start to finish the Berlin police attack on a group of activists from the Border Defense Movement (Ruch Obrony Granic). Today, Robert Bąkiewicz shared further details of the incident on air, describing his stay at the hospital where he was taken after allegedly being severely beaten by police officers.

“Paweł Kryszczak and I were taken to a Bundeswehr hospital. I immediately thought it was about ensuring that certain facts would not come to light. I assumed the medical staff would be protecting the good name of the German police. And that is exactly what happened,” he said.

According to Bąkiewicz, hospital staff informed him in the middle of the night that he had to leave the facility.

“In fact, shortly after midnight, I was thrown out of the hospital. I was simply told that I had to leave,” said the leader of the Border Defense Movement.

“I was handed a discharge document. (…) It contained none of the injuries or symptoms that I had reported. I was simply given a false discharge report. I went back and complained that I had received incomplete medical documentation. They took the discharge papers away and returned about fifteen minutes later. ‘No, no, everything is here,’ I was told, and I was handed a revised document. They even added a CD containing the CT scan images,” Bąkiewicz said during an evening interview on Republika TV.

“In addition, I underwent an ultrasound examination. I think the doctors were concerned that I might have suffered internal injuries. The examination was extremely thorough, to the point of being uncomfortable,” he added.

On June 16 in Berlin, German police allegedly used force against activists from the Border Defense Movement who were attempting to place a cross next to a memorial stone dedicated to Polish victims of World War II. Participants were knocked to the ground and handcuffed, and some reportedly sustained injuries requiring medical assistance.
