MP Izabela Bodnar has announced her resignation from both the Poland 2050 party and its parliamentary caucus. She explained her decision by saying that the policies pursued by the party’s leadership diverge significantly from the values she upholds and the principles on which the party campaigned.
Bodnar shared the news of her resignation in a post on the X platform.
“Today I submitted my resignation from the Poland 2050 party and its parliamentary caucus. This decision, though difficult, had been maturing in me for some time. The politics pursued by the leaders of Poland 2050 greatly diverge from the values that guide me and which we presented to voters during the campaign. In my view, it is based on a fundamentally flawed strategy,” wrote Bodnar.
She stressed that she cannot accept a situation where Poland 2050, as part of the ruling coalition, undertakes “actions that undermine its unity and effectiveness.”
“It puts its own goals first instead of playing as a team. Such politics are not only shortsighted but also irresponsible and damaging to the stability of the state. It contradicts the expectations and trust of our voters, who mobilized as never before on October 15 to restore the rule of law in Poland,” she assessed.
Bodnar emphasized that she still believes the governing coalition, despite its differences and difficult moments, “will regroup, strengthen, and be able to fulfill all of Poland’s key objectives before the end of its term.”
She added that last week’s late-night meeting between Szymon Hołownia and PiS members played a role in her final decision.
To recall, Poland 2050 has recently plunged into a serious crisis. MP Tomasz Zimoch was suspended for criticizing Szymon Hołownia, prompting other members of the ruling coalition to come to his defense. The future of the Speaker’s party, in its current form, now hangs in the balance.
