    Best doughnuts’ recipe for Fat Thursday!

    The last Thursday before Lent is associated with the celebration of Carnival and, of course, doughnuts! Today, we encourage you to make your own doughnuts with us for the best day in the year – “Fat Thursday” called in Poland “Tłusty Czwartek.”

    The best doughnut recipe for Fat Thursday!

    Ingredients:      

    • 1 kg/35.27 oz of flour,
    • 100 g/3.527 oz of fresh yeast,
    • 90 g/3.17 oz of powdered sugar,
    • 500ml/17 fl oz of milk,
    • 8 egg yolks,
    • 100 g/3.527 oz of butter,
    • a glass of spirit,
    • filling of your choice: marmalade, jam, chocolate, etc.,
    • icing (below is our recipe) or powdered sugar for sprinkling,
    • fat for frying (lard or rape oil).

    Preparation:

    1. Let’s make the leaven. Crumble the yeast and pour half a cup of lukewarm milk over it. It must not be too warm, so as not to kill the yeast. 

    2. Add a tablespoon of sugar and 3 tablespoons of flour. 

    3. Stir and set aside in a warm place to rise.

    4. In the meantime, melt the butter. 

    5. After the yeast has risen, mix it with the remaining flour, and add egg yolks and powdered sugar. 

    6. Mix it and add spirit. Thanks to this ingredient, the doughnuts will not soak up fat. 

    7. Knead for a few minutes. 

    8. Then, add melted butter and knead the dough again. It should be elastic. 

    9. Cover it with a cotton cloth and leave it to rise for an hour.

    10. After that time, flip the dough onto a pastry board and roll it out. 

    11. Cut out circles with a glass or a mould.

    12. Set them aside to rise a little more.

    13. Heat the fat in a pan or a pot and fry.

    14. Fill the doughnuts with marmalade, chocolate, jam or whatever you want by injecting the filling into the doughnut. 

    15. Finally, sprinkle the doughnuts with powdered sugar or icing and decorate with candied orange peel (if you like of course).
