Błaszczak Calls for Immigration Referendum, Warns Poland’s Exemption from EU Pact Is Only Temporary

“I said there would be no relocation of migrants in Poland – and there won’t be! Done,” Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on X on Saturday. His statement referred to Poland’s exemption from the EU’s migrant relocation mechanism and related financial contributions. Vice-President of Law and Justice (PiS) Mariusz Błaszczak, however, does not believe Tusk’s assurances and is calling for a referendum on the matter.

Temporary Exemption from the Migration Pact – Nawrocki’s Achievement

Politicians from Law and Justice (PiS) did not believe the Prime Minister’s words. They claim that this is deception, as Poland’s exclusion from the relocation mechanism is said to be only temporary.

On Sunday, Mariusz Błaszczak published a post drawing attention to several issues related to the imposition of mass migration on Poland.

“If media reports about Poland’s temporary exemption from the migration pact are confirmed, it will be thanks to President Karol Nawrocki, not Donald Tusk. Apart from holding a few press conferences for Polish media, the Prime Minister has not taken any real action in Brussels,”

wrote the PiS vice-president.

If the Exemption Takes Effect, It Will Be Only for a Year – A Referendum Is Necessary

“However, we must remember that such an exemption would only be valid for one year, precisely because Tusk agreed to the migration pact in its current form,”

he added.

Therefore, Błaszczak emphasized, it will be essential to hold a referendum in Poland against illegal migration and to unilaterally withdraw from the migration pact.

The migration pact, which Tusk did not effectively oppose and which came into force during the rule of the December 13 coalition, consists of regulations and directives that have direct legal effect. This means they do not require separate implementation by member states to be binding.

“Tusk says, ‘we will not implement the pact,’ but he ignores the fact that in many cases there is nothing to implement – the legal acts are already in force,”

Błaszczak continued on X.

According to the politician, the so-called “solidarity mechanism” will be recalculated annually, and the European Union does not want the number of migrants covered by relocation to be made public immediately – a sign, he claims, that the scale of the expected burden on member states is being concealed.

The President Sends a Clear Message to von der Leyen

Earlier this week, Polish President Karol Nawrocki sent a letter to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, declaring that Poland would not implement the migration pact.

“Dear Madam President, the European Commission will soon face important decisions. I therefore kindly inform you that Poland will not agree to any actions by European institutions aimed at relocating illegal migrants to Poland. I trust that you will take this fact into account in your decisions,”

wrote Karol Nawrocki.
