Błaszczak: The ruling coalition once again shows its hypocrisy

Law and Justice (PiS) MP Mariusz Błaszczak pointed to the hypocrisy of the December 13 coalition, which talks extensively about security while at the same time rejecting a bill drafted by Law and Justice (PiS) that would have streamlined and tightened the rules for granting Polish citizenship. “You cannot at the same time speak about concern for Poland’s security and block laws that strengthen that security. Yesterday, those in power clearly showed that their narrative about security is nothing more than empty declarations,” said the former head of the Ministry of National Defence.

The ruling camp’s narrative on security is nothing but empty declarations

In the opinion of Law and Justice (PiS) MP Mariusz Błaszczak, “the ruling coalition is once again showing its hypocrisy.” They talk so much about “security,” yet when they had a real opportunity to strengthen it – they rejected a bill prepared by Law and Justice (PiS) that would have organized and tightened the rules for granting Polish citizenship, the PiS politician pointed out.

The bill provided, among other things, for extending the period of legal and uninterrupted residence in Poland required to apply for citizenship, more thorough verification of applicants, an obligation of genuine integration into Polish society – including knowledge of the language, culture, and basic constitutional principles – and strengthening the role of state services in the process of issuing opinions on citizenship applications.

“You cannot at the same time speak about concern for Poland’s security and block laws that strengthen that security. Yesterday, those in power clearly showed that their narrative about security is nothing more than empty declarations,” noted the former deputy prime minister.
