Bodnar’s Team Pursues Antoni Macierewicz – Motion Filed to Lift His Parliamentary Immunity

Poland’s Prosecutor General, Adam Bodnar, has submitted a formal request to the Speaker of the Sejm to strip PiS MP Antoni Macierewicz of his parliamentary immunity.

According to a statement from the prosecutor’s office, “The basis for the request to lift Antoni Macierewicz’s immunity stems from findings based on evidence collected in an investigation conducted by Special Investigative Team No. 4 of the National Prosecutor’s Office,” which was established by Bodnar in November 2024.

The team has been tasked with examining alleged irregularities in the functioning of the Smolensk subcommittee, which was led by Macierewicz. Bodnar’s office is currently conducting seven separate investigations related to the subcommittee’s activities.

The National Prosecutor’s Office states that Macierewicz is implicated in an investigation concerning “abuse of power and failure to fulfill official duties by the Chairman of the Subcommittee, the Minister of National Defence, and other public officials, by disclosing classified information labeled ‘Top Secret’ to unauthorized persons, as well as the improper handling, production, and storage of such materials.”

Bodnar’s prosecutors intend to charge Macierewicz with, among other offenses, the unauthorized disclosure of classified information designated as “Secret” or “Top Secret.” This offense carries a potential prison sentence of between 3 months and 5 years.
