“The situation in Pyrzyce shows who Grzegorz Braun really is. I would like to appeal to young people — who consider themselves patriots — to reflect on whether it is possible to belong to a party whose leaders fraternize with our mortal enemies. (…) I hope that patriots, people who carry Poland in their hearts, will finally understand who Mr. Braun is,” Adam Borowski, an anti-communist opposition activist from the PRL era and head of the Warsaw Gazeta Polska Club, told the portal Niezalezna.pl, commenting on the scandalous attempt to block the decision to demolish a Soviet monument.
A councilor from the Confederation of the Polish Crown party in Pyrzyce threatened other councilors before the vote on whether to demolish the monument of gratitude to the Red Army. He warned them that, under the law of the Russian Federation, “destroying monuments and memorial sites is a crime prosecuted even when committed by citizens of other countries.” His threats ultimately proved ineffective, and the Soviet monument will be removed.
Commenting on the bizarre situation, Adam Borowski assessed that, in his opinion, the leadership of the Confederation of the Polish Crown is “linked to our mortal enemy — Russia.”
“In this party there is Mr. Mateusz Piskorski, who was arrested on suspicion of acting as an agent for Russia and who has repeatedly spoken out against dismantling Soviet monuments, including in Pieniężno and other places. The party is led by Mr. Grzegorz Braun, who embraces Mr. ‘Jaszczur,’ that is Wojciech Olszański, also known as Aleksander Jabłonowski, who — as reported by the media — met with a representative of the Russian embassy in Poland and during that conversation praised Ivan Serov as a great son of Russia,” Borowski recalled.
“And it was Serov who was responsible for the arrest of the leaders of the Polish underground state. On behalf of the NKVD he was responsible for the Augustów roundup and for luring into a trap and disarming the command of the Vilnius and Nowogródek districts of the Home Army after Operation ‘Ostra Brama.’ This is a man with Polish blood on his hands, yet Mr. Olszański praises him as a great son of the Russian nation, and Mr. Grzegorz Braun welcomes Olszański like a close associate when he leaves prison,” the interviewee emphasized.
He also recalled that Braun “sent a letter to the Russian foreign minister, Lavrov, at a time when Russia is killing civilians in Ukraine.”
“And a councilor from his party in Pyrzyce threatens other councilors who decided to dismantle the Soviet monument that they will be prosecuted by the Russian Federation,” he added.
“The situation in Pyrzyce shows who Grzegorz Braun really is. I would like to appeal to young people — patriots, after all — to consider whether it is possible to belong to a party whose leaders fraternize with our mortal enemies. That councilor is a man who represents Russian interests, and Grzegorz Braun, who has his mouth full of patriotic slogans, in fact also represents Russian interests. It would be good if young people learned about this,” Adam Borowski stressed.
He also pointed out that during the presidential campaign Grzegorz Braun “assured voters that he would establish very good relations with all our neighbors, including Russia and Belarus.”
“In essence, using slightly different words, Mr. Braun said what Donald Tusk said in 2007 — that ‘we want to cooperate with Russia as it is.’ I hope that patriots, people who have Poland in their hearts, will finally understand who Mr. Braun is,” concluded the head of the Warsaw Gazeta Polska Club.
