In an exciting display of skill and determination, the Polish whitewater kayaking team clinched a bronze medal at the World Championships held at the Olympic Lee Valley course in London. The competition, which kicked off on Tuesday, saw the Czech team take the top spot, followed by the French in second place.
The Polish trio of Mateusz Polaczyk, Michał Pasiut, and Dariusz Popiela, who had previously secured silver at this year’s European Championships, faced stiff competition in London. Their only loss in Krakow was to the Spanish team, who surprisingly finished 10th at the World Championships. The Czechs claimed victory, outpacing the French by 1.23 seconds, with both teams navigating the challenging course without incurring penalty points. The Polish team collected two penalty points and trailed the winners by 3.47 seconds.
On the women’s side, the Polish kayaking team, consisting of Klaudia Zwolińska, Natalia Pacierpnik, and Dominika Brzeska, secured a respectable seventh-place finish. The Australian team emerged victorious, with the Spanish and British teams rounding out the top three.
The action continues with qualifications for the canoeing teams on Wednesday and kayaking on Thursday. Friday will feature the semi-finals and finals for C1, followed by K1 on Saturday. The championship will conclude on Sunday with the thrilling cross competition.
