Charges Against Obajtek? Kaczyński Responds: “The Policy of Insulting and ‘Sanding Down’ Catholics Continues”

“The illegal prosecution office under Bodnar continues to cross new boundaries of absurdity,” wrote Law and Justice (PiS) party leader Jarosław Kaczyński in response to reports that Daniel Obajtek may face charges for removing from Orlen’s stations an issue of the newspaper published by communist-era propagandist Jerzy Urban. Kaczyński claims this is part of a broader campaign of “insulting and sanding down Catholics.”

The prosecution reportedly plans to request the lifting of European Parliament member Daniel Obajtek’s immunity. One of the reasons cited is his removal of an issue of Nie, a weekly founded by Jerzy Urban, from Orlen gas stations. The issue in question featured a scandalous cover offensive to Saint John Paul II.

The former Orlen CEO posted the controversial cover online and commented on the potential charges:

“I believe withdrawing that particular issue of Nie was entirely appropriate, as it offended religious sentiments, the cross, and Saint John Paul II. If they want to lift my immunity over this, I wear it as a badge of honor. You’re incapable of doing anything useful-no investments, no developmental initiatives. You’re failing at governing and can only attack those who worked for the good of the country. These kinds of accusations just make you look ridiculous. For the record, I’m attaching the cover that I decided to pull,”
said Daniel Obajtek.

Jarosław Kaczyński also weighed in on the matter:

“The illegal prosecution office under Bodnar continues to cross new boundaries of absurdity. The policy of insulting and sanding down Catholics continues…”
commented the PiS leader.
