Cold Case Breakthrough: 14-Year-Old Mystery of Drug Smuggling and Death Unraveled by Polish Police

Officers from the X-Files of the Criminal Department of the Regional Police Headquarters in Łódź, under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Sieradz, solved a case dating back 14 years. In June 2009, the body of a 33-year-old man was found in a forest area in the Słubice County. The autopsy revealed that the man died due to a rupture in his stomach caused by one of the many packets of amphetamine sulfate he had ingested.

On June 27, 2009, the body of a 33-year-old man, a resident of Zduńska Wola, was found in a forest near Słubice. The autopsy confirmed that the man died as a result of a rupture in his stomach caused by one of the packets of amphetamine sulfate he had ingested. After conducting several investigative procedures, on November 26, 2009, the District Police Headquarters in Słubice closed the case due to a lack of sufficient data justifying suspicion of a crime.

During the investigation of the disappearance of a resident of Sieradz, officers from the Unsolved Crimes Division of the Criminal Department of the Regional Police Headquarters in Łódź, under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Sieradz, reanalyzed the collected evidence and secured traces. The investigators determined that a 52-year-old man with a significant criminal history was connected to the death of the 33-year-old. The findings allowed them to reopen the previously closed investigation. The subsequent investigative actions led to the identification of three more men involved not only in the death of the victim but also in the smuggling of considerable amounts of amphetamine sulfate from Poland to the United Kingdom using the “swallow” method. The body of the 33-year-old was discovered in a forest complex in the Słubice county, near the Polish-German border. The suspects were men aged 46 to 60.

On July 25, 2023, at the prosecutor’s order, the police arrested the identified men and brought them to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Sieradz, where they were charged with committing socially harmful crimes. One of the charges constitutes a felony. The 46-year-old was brought from the Sieradz Penitentiary, while the 52-year-old was brought from the Detention Center in Łódź, where they were held for their previous offenses. On July 26, 2023, the court ordered the temporary arrest of the three suspects as a preventive measure.

The case is still under investigation, with efforts being made to establish the involvement of other individuals in the death of the 33-year-old resident of Zduńska Wola and the cross-border smuggling of substantial amounts of drugs and psychotropic substances by an organized criminal group operating in Sieradz.
