Włodzimierz Czarzasty has in no way addressed his past in the context of dangerous ties, recently exposed by journalists from TV Republika. Instead, he offered “advice” to President Karol Nawrocki. “You will get nothing for Poland on your knees,” he says in a recording.
A few days ago, U.S. President Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News that the United States had never needed NATO’s help and “never really asked allies for anything.”
“You know, they will say they sent troops to Afghanistan or Sudan, and they did. They stayed a little behind, a little away from the front line,” he added.
President Nawrocki’s Response
NATO leaders, including Polish President Karol Nawrocki, reacted to the remarks. “In Afghanistan, 44 brave Poles fell: 43 soldiers and one civilian. Polish soldiers are heroes. They deserve respect and words of thanks for their service,” he wrote on X.
Nawrocki was also asked about Trump’s remarks on Sunday in Vilnius. “[…] our allies can count on Polish soldiers. President Trump also knows this, and during many discussions with me, whether bilateral talks or public statements, he spoke about the value of the Polish soldier,” he emphasized.
“Our last meeting on Thursday ended with the words ‘great warriors’, meaning that he is aware that the Polish soldier is always where the interest of the Republic of Poland is, or where the allied interest of the North Atlantic Alliance, NATO, is,” the Polish head of state recalled.
Karol Nawrocki added that he does not know whom Trump specifically had in mind. “As we can see, all allies have spoken up, emphasizing their commitment within the North Atlantic Alliance. Meanwhile, Ambassador Tome Rose, the United States ambassador, recently sent a public message stating that the United States knows how great Poland’s contribution is to allied operations,” he announced.
“Today I am not convinced that any leader in the world – including the leaders of states standing here next to me – could fail to recognize the contribution of the Republic of Poland and the Polish soldier to the security of our region and the entire world,” he stressed.
The December 13 Coalition presses on
Despite the Polish president’s response, prominent members of the December 13 coalition continue to attack him. According to Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, head of the Ministry of National Defense: “Polish diplomacy worked. You could already see this in the post by the U.S. ambassador to Poland, who referred to it differently, changing that narrative. There is a response from the entire government, from the prime minister and from me, the foreign minister. So we are saying what the truth is. President Nawrocki should also raise this in his relations with President Trump.” Another politician offering “advice” to the president on how to respond to the American leader’s statement is Włodzimierz Czarzasty. The Speaker of the Sejm has recently been in the spotlight due to a journalistic investigation by TV Republika.
Włodzimierz Czarzasty, leader of New Left (Nowa Lewica) and the current Speaker of the Sejm, by virtue of his position has access to the state’s most classified documents. However, as established by the authors of the program “Ściśle Jawne”, he has for years effectively avoided vetting procedures. Moreover, despite sitting on the Sejm committee for special services since November 2023, Czarzasty has not submitted a personal security questionnaire to the Internal Security Agency (ABW). Why? The answer may lie in a network of business and social ties built since the 1990s by the former Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) milieu.
The main figure involved remains silent on the matter, but offers “diplomatic” guidance to President Nawrocki. In his latest video posted on social media, we hear: “President Trump spoke in a contemptuous way about soldiers other than American ones who fought on missions. This is a scandalous statement. It should never have happened and should be condemned by Polish politicians. Our soldiers fought, died, and deserve every good word, every praise, and enormous respect.”
He then quoted President Nawrocki’s post.
“Really? You are not capable of telling President Trump: ‘you did something shameful. You forgot about soldiers other than Americans’,” Czarzasty presses on.
And he adds: “Mr. President, you will get nothing for Poland on your knees.”
