“I have finally received official confirmation from the prosecutor’s office that an investigation has been launched into threats of assault and murder directed at me by Wojciech B., an officer of the State Protection Service (SOP),” Piotr Nisztor, an investigative journalist for TV Republika, said on social media.
As previously reported, in early February this year, TV Republika revealed shocking recordings. In one of them, an officer of the State Protection Service (SOP), Wojciech B., spoke openly about abducting, torturing, and then killing and cremating the body of investigative journalist Piotr Nisztor. This was allegedly meant as revenge against the journalist, who in 2014 described his cooperation with an arms dealer wanted by French police.
In another of the disclosed recordings, “Biszkopt” could be heard discussing a plan to run over Nisztor’s two dogs.
TV Republika contacted Wojciech B. at the time. When asked by a journalist to comment on the tapes disclosed by the station, he hung up the phone.
The head of the Free Speech House, Tomasz Sakiewicz, almost immediately announced that the investigative journalist would be placed under personal protection.
“We decided to provide Piotr with personal protection. This means we are activating additional special measures in this case. I cannot discuss the details, as requested by the heads of security. The point is to ensure Piotr has a minimum level of safety. Especially since the recordings clearly stated that this man would carry out the sentence on Piotr upon leaving the service. There are many indications that this individual is still at large. We are dealing with someone who was involved in arms trafficking. There is no problem for him to obtain another weapon. We have no information about what actions the authorities have taken against him. We do not know what his plans are,” Sakiewicz said at the time.
Shortly thereafter, both Piotr Nisztor and Tomasz Sakiewicz – on behalf of TV Republika – filed notifications with the prosecutor’s office.
Nisztor: prosecutor’s office launches investigation
Today, approximately one and a half months after the notification was filed, the investigative journalist for TV Republika announced that the investigation has been officially launched.
“I have finally received official confirmation from the prosecutor’s office that an investigation has been launched into threats of assault and murder directed at me by Wojciech B., an officer of the State Protection Service (SOP). The evidence includes fragments of recordings that we revealed on TV Republika,” Nisztor wrote on the X platform.
