Disgusting post by Fr. Sowa about the intervention at the head of TV Republika. Response from the Archdiocese of Warsaw

Fr. Kazimierz Sowa published a scandalous post referring to the police intervention at the apartment of the CEO of TV Republika, Tomasz Sakiewicz. He will also face a meeting with Archbishop Adrian Galbas.

Scandalous post by Fr. Sowa about Sakiewicz. Response from Archbishop Galbas

For several days, a coordinated and outrageous campaign has been conducted against journalists of TV Republika, involving the filing of false reports and triggering groundless interventions by services. The biggest scandal erupted on Friday, when police forced their way into the apartment of the CEO of TV Republika, Tomasz Sakiewicz. Officers appeared under the pretext of a report about a child being in danger, yet they refused to identify themselves. During the intervention, the CEO’s assistant was also handcuffed.

The police intervention was commented on online by Fr. Kazimierz Sowa.

“…so you are saying that assistants to editors, especially editors-in-chief, are obliged to work in a 24/7 system, with particular emphasis on staying in their – that is, those editors’ – private apartments? Interesting, I was an editor-in-chief for many years, but I didn’t know. P.S. thanks for the meme. It fits”, he wrote. His post triggered a wave of criticism – all the more so because he is a clergyman. TV Republika asked the Archdiocese of Warsaw, to which Fr. Sowa belongs, to respond to his scandalous post.

The Press Office replied that it was aware of the matter, and Archbishop Adrian Galbas assessed Fr. Sowa’s publication as unacceptable. He also ordered him to remove the scandalous post from the internet. Archbishop Galbas will also hold a meeting with Fr. Sowa at the seat of the Archbishops of Warsaw.

Political connections of Fr. Sowa

Fr. Kazimierz Sowa has for years been associated with the circles of Civic Platform (PO), and earlier with Civic Coalition (KO). At the same time, he has repeatedly publicly criticized Law and Justice (PiS) and Jarosław Kaczyński. His activity has long sparked controversy, as the clergyman frequently engages in commentary on current politics and public life.

The so-called tape scandal related to recordings from the famous restaurant “Sowa i Przyjaciele” also resonated widely. The conversations were recorded in 2014, and the disclosed materials showed that the priest participated in informal meetings with influential politicians of Civic Platform (PO), including Paweł Graś, as well as business representatives. The recordings suggested that he advised politicians on personnel and media matters, and also spoke harshly about his political opponents. He also directed critical remarks at right-wing media – about “Gazeta Polska,” he said, among other things, that it should be “destroyed”. For this reason, he is sometimes informally referred to as the “chaplain” of Donald Tusk’s circle.
