“My detention is a repressive measure taken against a member of a constitutional body for defending freedom of speech. The system being introduced by Tusk is one of decisionism and dictatorship, destroying Poland’s freedom and its sovereignty. I am guilty of nothing, and I will not surrender to anything,” Maciej Świrski wrote in a handwritten statement after being detained by the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) earlier today.
Earlier this morning, Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the Minister-Coordinator of the Special Services, confirmed that, acting on the orders of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Rzeszów, officers of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) detained two former members of the Polish National Foundation (PFN): Maciej Świrski and Cezary Jurkiewicz.
Before his detention, Świrski wrote a handwritten statement claiming that his arrest was a repressive action targeting a member of a constitutional body. In the statement, he described the current government as a dictatorship. He also declared that he had committed no wrongdoing and had no intention of yielding.
Below is the full text of his statement:
“Today, at 6:05 a.m., officers of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) entered my home and attempted to serve me with an order for my detention and transfer to the Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw. The reason for my detention is an investigation into the ‘Fair Courts’ information campaign conducted by the Polish National Foundation (PFN).
My detention is a repressive measure taken against a member of a constitutional body for defending freedom of speech. The system being introduced by Tusk is one of decisionism and dictatorship, destroying Poland’s freedom and its sovereignty. I am guilty of nothing, and I will not surrender to anything.”
