Dr. hab. Urszula Myga-Piątek from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Silesia, President of the Polish Geographical Society, was appointed by the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences as a member of the Council of Scientific Societies at the presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences for the 2023-2026 term.
In the new term of office, the main goal of the council is to develop legal solutions regarding the status of scientific societies and associations and the system of social financing of the scientific movement in Poland.
The Council was established in 1963. Since then, its tasks include:
representing the social science movement;
undertaking activities aimed at the development of science and its dissemination as part of the statutory activities carried out by scientific societies;
preparing – for the authorities of the Academy and state authorities – opinions on the social scientific movement and its participation in the general scientific and educational policy of the state.
