Last Wednesday, a drone of unknown origin reportedly fell onto a military unit in Przasnysz. The Niezalezna.pl portal has established that it was a small drone, without a SIM card or a memory card, likely transmitting video directly to its operator. Unfortunately, neither the operator nor the owner of the device has been identified so far.
The incident allegedly occurred on the grounds of the 2nd Radioelectronic Center in Przasnysz—a specialized formation responsible for reconnaissance and electronic warfare. The unit is tasked with data collection and continuous monitoring of the radio spectrum in the northeastern part of the country, including the strategically important Suwałki Gap.
According to information from Radio ZET, on January 28 on-duty soldiers noticed an unmanned aerial vehicle circling over the base. At one point, the aircraft fell onto the facility’s grounds, striking approximately 70 meters from an ammunition storage building.
Small Drone — No Cards, Video Feed to the Operator
Major Tomasz Wiktorowicz, spokesperson for the Mazovian Branch of the Military Gendarmerie, confirmed the incident in a conversation with Niezalezna.pl.
“A small drone fell on the premises of the unit. It was initially secured by the unit’s services, after which Military Gendarmerie officers from the Przasnysz detachment undertook activities at the scene,” Maj. Wiktorowicz told us.
He added that the site was secured and witnesses to the drone’s fall were questioned. Unfortunately, it has still not been determined who the drone belonged to. “Activities carried out in the vicinity of the incident site did not lead to the identification of a potential operator,” Maj. Wiktorowicz emphasized.
As he added, it was a “small drone,” and it was established at the scene that it likely transmitted video directly to the operator.
“It did not contain a memory card or a SIM card that could be used to store data,” our interlocutor reported.
Information has emerged, provided by Mariusz Gierszewski of Radio ZET, that “there is a suspicion that it was a reconnaissance drone.”
“At this moment, I do not have knowledge in this regard. Further actions, possibly including the appointment of an expert, may allow this to be confirmed or ruled out. But at present, there is nothing to indicate that it was this type of device. However, until the activities are completed, I would not like to categorically state that it definitely was not, or confirm that it was,” Maj. Tomasz Wiktorowicz told us.
“The Military Gendarmerie in Przasnysz is conducting an investigation into an unmanned aerial vehicle that fell onto the grounds of the local military unit on January 28 of this year, causing no damage. Preliminary findings indicate that it was a toy drone, devoid of a memory card and a SIM card. Further procedural activities are currently underway,” the Military Gendarmerie stated in a separate communiqué.
We also contacted the unit in Przasnysz. The spokesperson for the unit on whose premises the incident occurred told us that he knows nothing about the matter.
