Jacek M., the County Governor of Brzeg and a member of the Civic Platform (PO), reportedly caused a disturbance at the emergency room in Brzeg after a night of heavy drinking. The incident occurred following a brawl at a military base celebration. The governor, under the influence of alcohol, became agitated due to the long wait for medical attention and lashed out at hospital staff, threatening them with consequences.
The brawl reportedly started when M.’s inappropriate behavior towards a woman at the event provoked an altercation, resulting in him being struck by another guest and needing medical attention. With two per mile of alcohol in his blood, he was taken to the hospital, where his disorderly behavior continued.
M. later denied being drunk, stating he was merely “under the influence of alcohol” and that the long wait for a doctor, exacerbated by other patient complaints, irritated him. Despite the incident, the official has stated that he has no intention of stepping down from his position.
This marks the second time in five years that a PO official in the region has been involved in a scandal following the annual military base event. Five years earlier, another Civic Platform member was expelled from the party after domestic violence allegations surfaced.
Local politician Wojciech Komarzyński commented that M.’s position is likely secure, referencing the so-called “Neumann Doctrine,” implying that internal party protection often shields members from the consequences of such scandals.
