“Hey everyone! Fancy turning up drunk at a ministry building, using the ‘rest room’ with a colleague, and scuffling with security on the way in?” asks MP Paweł Jabłoński sarcastically while publishing a prosecutor’s decision refusing to open an investigation. The case concerns a scandal from several weeks ago involving Deputy Energy Minister Marian Zmarzły.
The alleged drunken incident, which took place in early May, drew significant public attention. Zmarzły has faced no political consequences and remains a member of the leadership of the Ministry of Energy. However, the matter was referred to prosecutors following a criminal complaint filed by Law and Justice (PiS) MP Paweł Jabłoński.
The MP published the response from the Warsaw-Śródmieście District Prosecutor’s Office, which reviewed his notification of a suspected criminal offense.
Prosecutors have now refused to initiate an investigation. According to the decision, none of the reported conduct met the statutory criteria of a criminal offense.
“Hey everyone! Fancy turning up drunk at a ministry building, using the ‘rest room’ with a colleague, and scuffling with security on the way in? No problem at all—as long as you’re a minister in Donald Tusk’s government… The prosecutor’s office has decided this isn’t even a crime and won’t even open an investigation!” Jabłoński wrote on social media.
He concluded:
“In any case, Minister Marian Zmarzły can rest easy for now. At least for another year and a half.”
Drunken Disturbance at the Ministry of Energy
At the beginning of May, Telewizja Republika reported:
“A man identifying himself as Deputy Minister Marian Zmarzły allegedly attempted to force his way into a ‘rest room.’ When security personnel requested proof of his identity, an altercation ensued. The man was reportedly unsteady on his feet, slurring his speech, and smelled of alcohol.”
According to the report, a woman accompanying him attempted to calm him down. When a security guard asked him to confirm his identity, Zmarzły allegedly became enraged, insulting the guard, demanding his name, and threatening that “he would hold everyone here accountable.”
After reaching the fifth floor, Zmarzły allegedly pushed a security employee, violating the guard’s physical integrity. According to the security staff’s account, the incident continued with shouting and threats that he would “hold all these boors accountable.”
The deputy minister later denied responsibility for the incident. Meanwhile, Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka of the Polish People’s Party (PSL) initially declared that the matter would be thoroughly examined. A few days later, however, he stated only that Zmarzły “deserves a second chance in the Christian spirit.”
