Electric Vehicle Adoption in Poland Continues to Surge

    Estimated reading time: 1 minute

In a recent report by the Electric Mobility Counter, it was revealed that as of the end of September this year, Poland had registered a total of 50,386 fully electric passenger and utility vehicles, marking a substantial 57% increase since the beginning of the year, with an additional 16,971 units. This data underscores the growing popularity of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the country.

The report, a collaborative effort between the Polish Automotive Industry Association (PZPM) and the Polish Alternative Fuels Association (PSPA), also disclosed that by the end of September, Poland boasted 87,724 electric passenger vehicles on its roads. Among them, 45,198 were BEVs, while plug-in hybrid (PHEV) cars numbered 42,526. Furthermore, there were 5,212 electric commercial and heavy-duty vehicles plying the roads.

Electric mobility isn’t limited to four-wheeled transport. Poland saw an increase in electric motorbikes, with 18,922 units reported by the end of September. In addition, the number of hybrid passenger and commercial vehicles grew to 619,122 units. Interestingly, Poland also celebrated a milestone of 1,006 electric buses operating in the country.

Concurrently, the electric charging infrastructure continues to develop, with 3,068 public charging stations available across Poland. Of these, 33% are fast-charging stations (DC), while 67% are standard AC chargers with a maximum output of 22 kW.

“September was a symbolic month for the Polish electric mobility sector. The number of electric buses in our country has surpassed 1,000 units. The same milestone has been achieved by fast, public DC charging stations. Poland has seen over 250 new DC chargers installed this year, increasing their share in the charging infrastructure network from 29% to 33%, making it one of the highest proportions of fast chargers in the European Union.”
