Electricity bills will go up. “The December 13 Coalition has once again lied to Poles”

From January 1, electricity bills will increase. Despite this, Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka stated that “the increase depends on consumption”. – The December 13 Coalition has once again lied to Poles. They claimed prices would be lower, and instead prices have gone up – comments Law and Justice (PiS) MP Anna Gembicka.

Electricity bills on the rise

As of December 31, the freezing of electricity prices at 500 PLN per MWh for households, introduced four years ago by the Law and Justice (PiS) government, expired. From January 1, with continued settlement based on tariff prices, the cost of electricity itself will generally be slightly lower than in 2025. At the same time, the distribution component of the bill will increase, covering network charges and other components such as the cogeneration fee, capacity fee, renewable energy sources (RES) fee, and quality fee. Recently, the President of the Energy Regulatory Office approved distribution tariffs for the coming year for the five largest distribution system operators.

The average increase in distribution tariffs will amount to 9.36 percent compared with the levels in force in 2025, while the total distribution charges together with additional fees included on household bills will rise on average by about 7.6 percent.

Motyka: The increase depends on consumption

The energy minister in the government of the December 13 Coalition, Miłosz Motyka, was asked today about rising electricity bills on TVN24. The politician stated that “the increase depends on consumption”. He also explained that “the capacity fee, an indicator serving energy security and effectively ensuring available capacity in the system from conventional units, does increase, but it increases with higher consumption”. Motyka argued that allegedly electricity prices in 2026 – despite the increases – “will remain at a similar level”.

“As far as higher consumption is concerned, it will remain within the inflation target. With lower consumption, it will be cheaper”, he stated.

“Tusk’s government is raising fees again”

The rise in electricity bills was highlighted on social media by Law and Justice ( PiS).

“Electricity is not a luxury. It is a basic necessity of life. And yet Tusk’s government is raising fees again” – the party wrote on its profile. The attached infographic emphasized that “every household will pay more, regardless of consumption”.

Law and Justice (PiS) MP Anna Gembicka, referring to the matter, wrote: “The December 13 Coalition has once again lied to Poles. They claimed prices would be lower, and prices have gone up.”
