“Polish soldiers have been fully evacuated from Iraq,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced on Friday. He added that most of the personnel of the Polish Military Contingent in Iraq are already in Poland or are on their way back to the country.
“In connection with the deterioration of security in the Middle East region, following an analysis of operational conditions and potential threats, a decision was made to relocate the Polish Military Contingent in Iraq,” Kosiniak-Kamysz reported in a Friday post on X.
The head of the Ministry of National Defence added that the relocation process was carried out in coordination with allies from NATO, and the operation was coordinated by Dowództwo Operacyjne Rodzajów Sił Zbrojnych.
“The priority was to ensure maximum safety for the soldiers and personnel of the PKW,” Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed. He noted that most of the contingent’s personnel are already in Poland or on their way to the country, while some are staying in Jordan.
“This allows for the continuity of PKW operations in the region,” the head of the Ministry of National Defence explained.
