Fatal Stabbing in Nowe: Colombian Nationals Detained by Police

A 41-year-old resident of the Nowe municipality (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship) has died after being fatally stabbed during the night. A 29-year-old Colombian man is suspected of carrying out the stabbing. The suspect is already in police custody.

Joanna Tarkowska, spokesperson for the Świecie police, told the Polish Press Agency (PAP) that officers were called shortly after 2 a.m. to respond to a fight between groups of men that broke out at one of the venues in Nowe, near Świecie. One group had been inside the venue, while the other was passing by.

According to Tarkowska, during the altercation a 41-year-old man from Świecie County was stabbed and later died from his injuries.

Two other individuals sustained minor injuries. Participants in the fight attempted to flee in a car and ignored police commands to stop.

“In the village of Zdrojewo (Nowe municipality), during an attempted stop, the driver of a Hyundai tried to force a police vehicle off the road, resulting in a collision. The police managed to stop the vehicle. Four men fled from the car. Despite their attempt to continue escaping on foot, officers apprehended the men, aged between 21 and 45. All of the detainees were under the influence of alcohol,” Tarkowska reported.

Another patrol arrested a 29-year-old Colombian citizen at a hotel. He is the prime suspect in the killing. Initially, police detained seven individuals—including five Colombian nationals. However, a statement released after 10:00 a.m. indicated that the number of detainees had increased to ten.

Procedural actions are ongoing in Nowe under the supervision of a public prosecutor.
