Fire extinguisher in the Sejm, throwing out a Christmas tree. An indictment has been filed against Braun

An indictment against MEP Grzegorz Braun has been submitted to the Warsaw-Praga Południe District Court (Sąd Rejonowy Warszawa-Praga Południe). The document includes seven charges. One of them concerns the politician extinguishing Hanukkah candles in the Sejm in 2023.

The charges against Grzegorz Braun include seven offenses and relate, among other things, to events from December 2023, when during a ceremony in the Sejm, Braun used a fire extinguisher to put out the Hanukkah candles. The prosecutor’s allegations also pertain to an incident at the German Historical Institute (Niemiecki Instytut Historyczny), where Braun disrupted a lecture on the Holocaust, and to an incident at a court in Kraków, where Braun removed a Christmas tree placed there by judges and threw it into a trash bin.

The indictment also refers to events at the National Institute of Cardiology – PIW (Narodowy Instytut Kardiologii – PIW), when in 2022 during the pandemic, Braun entered the hospital with a group of people—none of whom were wearing masks—and then stormed into a meeting of the facility’s management and assaulted its director, Dr. Łukasz Szumowski.
