Security services in Strasbourg used tear gas against protesting farmers, and many of them were also detained. As established by the Niezalezna.pl portal, among those detained by the French police are two Polish farmers affiliated with Solidarity.
Thousands of farmers are protesting in Strasbourg near the seat of the European Parliament against the EU–Mercosur trade agreement, which may enter into force soon. Poles are also among the protesters. In the vicinity of the European Parliament, farmers positioned several hundred tractors. As we reported on Niezalezna.pl, provocations by local security services occurred, with tear gas and stun grenades used against the protesters.
As established by Niezalezna.pl, the Strasbourg police detained two Polish farmers who are members of the agricultural Solidarity movement.
The information was confirmed to us by Tomasz Ognisty of the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union of Individual Farmers “Solidarity.” The reason for the detention is unknown at this time. Polish Members of the European Parliament have become involved in the case and are doing everything possible to assist the detained farmers.
