Nowogród Bobrzański prepares for the flood peak on the Bóbr River as water levels continue to rise.
Rising Water Levels in the Bóbr River
The municipality of Nowogród Bobrzański is bracing for a flood peak on the Bóbr River. On Wednesday, the water level reached 420 cm, far exceeding the 300 cm alarm level. Governor Marek Cebula expects levels to rise by another meter, worsening the situation.
Evacuations and Emergency Measures
Twenty residents of Cieszów have evacuated, while 50 others chose to stay. Governor Cebula has requested half a million sandbags, a request that is being prioritized. Over 100 officers from the Krzywaniec Penitentiary have been deployed to assist, having already provided food and water to the affected areas.
Wider Regional Threat
Other areas, including Żagań and Nowa Sól, are also on high alert for flooding. In Będów, near Czerwieńsk, sandbags are being used to protect homes.
