“He wants to promote himself through this dispute. He doesn’t care about Poland, he doesn’t care about security. He is a plain nihilist. He wants to become someone. But this does not serve him well. He does not understand how politics works. If someone holds serious office, they should act like a statesman, not like a bum; today, unfortunately, Czarzasty is behaving like one” — this is how Marek Balt commented on the conflict between the Speaker of the Sejm and the President on Republika TV.
Speaker of the Sejm Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced his decision regarding the presidential bill on the Polish “SEJF 0 percent” program.
“I am not assigning a print number to this bill. There are very serious doubts as to its constitutionality,” he stated, pointing to an alleged conflict with Article 221 of the Constitution.
Sharp criticism of the Speaker came from Marek Balt, a former Left MEP and now one of the leaders of the Nowa Fala party.
According to the politician, Czarzasty’s actions are an attempt to provoke a dispute with President Karol Nawrocki.
“He wants to promote himself through this conflict. He does not care about Poland or about security. He is a plain nihilist. He wants to become someone, but this does not serve him well. He does not understand how politics works. If someone holds serious office, they should be a statesman, not a disgrace; today, unfortunately, Czarzasty is behaving like one,” he said on Telewizja Republika.
Balt also reproached Czarzasty for the fact that, despite many years in parliament, “he still does not understand that once a bill is submitted to the Sejm, the Sejm becomes the host of that bill.”
“In reality, during readings, committee work, and through government initiatives, such a bill can be amended. Mr. Czarzasty says: ‘there are errors, so it is not fit for consideration.’ Go back to school, man, not to parliament. You’ve been an MP for so many years and still don’t understand how the Sejm works. Don’t tell people fairy tales,” he criticized.
Last week, the President vetoed the law implementing the EU SAFE rearmament mechanism. Earlier, together with the President of the National Bank of Poland (NBP), he presented an alternative to the program — the “Polish SEJF 0 percent.”
A bill on the Polish Defense Investment Fund has been submitted to the Sejm, proposing the creation of a fund whose primary source of financing would be profits from the NBP.
