On Friday, July 11, for the first time, the Day of Remembrance for Poles – victims of the genocide committed by the OUN-UPA in the Eastern Borderlands of the Second Polish Republic – will be officially observed. Deputy Speaker of the Sejm from the Polish People’s Party (PSL), Piotr Zgorzelski, stated in an interview with TV Republika that this is a way to pay tribute to those who were murdered and to bear witness that we will remember their fate and continue to speak the truth about those horrific times.
The victims cry out for truth

In Danuta Holecka’s program “Dzisiaj,” Piotr Zgorzelski reminded viewers that the Sejm passed the bill unanimously, with only one abstention, and added, “Tomorrow we can fly national flags.”
He noted that Saint John Paul II described the Volhynia massacre as genocide marked by exceptional cruelty.
“Never before in the history of Slavic nations has one brotherly Slavic nation treated another in such a way. Let me just mention that axes, crowbars, and other tools were used; pregnant women had their bellies cut open, the unborn children removed, and animals sewn inside. A tragedy. Nearly 200,000 of our compatriots were slaughtered in the name of Banderite ideology,” he emphasized.
He also noted that nearly 85 percent of the victims were Polish peasants.
Piotr Zgorzelski stressed that today we must demand the truth from Ukrainians about that period – including the issuance of permits for exhumations and a ban on honoring Banderites in Ukraine.
