From Radom to the Vatican: Jarosław Rodak’s Nativity Scene on International Display

A remarkable ceramic nativity scene crafted by Polish artist Jarosław Rodak will be displayed at the Vatican’s annual “100 Cribs” exhibition. Recently acquired by the Jacek Malczewski Museum in Radom, Rodak’s intricate work represents the cultural heritage of Mazovia and the Radom Diocese, set to join the international showcase.

    Crafting Tradition and Talent

Rodak, a master potter from Rędocin, brings life to clay with his expertise, blending traditional craftsmanship and personal artistry. His nativity scene consists of multiple figures, including the Holy Family, the Three Wise Men, angels, and animals, each piece reflecting the rustic beauty and simplicity of Polish folk art.

This exhibition holds significant meaning, as Poland’s folk artistry will stand alongside works from around the world. Bishop Marek Solarczyk, speaking at a recent press conference, noted that Rodak’s style has already reached the Vatican; in January, a miniature of his nativity was personally gifted to Pope Francis.

The “100 Cribs” exhibition will be held under Bernini’s colonnade in St. Peter’s Square from December 8 to January 6, showcasing cribs from 22 countries.
