Doctors at the Provincial Specialist Hospital in Włocławek received enormous salaries, with the highest-paid physician earning more than PLN 1.47 million in 2025. Last year alone, the hospital spent more than PLN 84 million on doctors’ remuneration.
The controversy surrounding Warsaw’s South Hospital has sparked widespread debate. Media outlets continue to uncover cases of exceptionally high salaries paid to doctors in hospitals across Poland. According to the local news portal ddwloclawek.pl, record-breaking earnings were also reported at the Provincial Specialist Hospital in Włocławek.
According to information obtained by the local outlet, the highest annual remuneration paid to a doctor working with the Włocławek hospital amounted to exactly PLN 1,474,919 in 2025. This translates into an average monthly income exceeding PLN 122,000.
More Than PLN 139,000 in a Single Month
The portal ddwloclawek.pl also asked the Provincial Specialist Hospital in Włocławek about the highest monthly payments made to physicians. The data showed that in May 2026, the highest-paid doctor received PLN 139,957 gross. The second-highest monthly salary reached PLN 136,531 gross.
The hospital also identified the specialties currently offering the highest pay. These include radiology and interventional cardiology – fields that require highly qualified specialists, whose numbers remain limited on the labor market.
Up to PLN 400 Per Hour for On-Call Duty
According to the hospital, the highest hourly rates currently offered to doctors performing on-call duties range from PLN 350 to PLN 400 per hour.
Hospital representatives emphasized that salary levels result from contracts awarded following the appropriate procurement procedures. They stated that the agreements are concluded in accordance with Poland’s Act on Medical Activity and public procurement regulations.
At an hourly rate of PLN 400, a single 24-hour shift can generate earnings of up to PLN 9,600. The final monthly remuneration depends on several factors, including the number of hours worked, on-call duties, medical specialty, and the scope of services provided.
Nearly PLN 85 Million Spent on Doctors’ Salaries
Data presented by ddwloclawek.pl also illustrates the scale of the hospital’s total spending on physicians’ remuneration. Throughout 2025, the Provincial Specialist Hospital allocated PLN 84,092,534.80 for doctors’ salaries.
This represented 32.86 percent of the hospital’s total personnel costs, meaning that nearly every third złoty spent on employee remuneration went to doctors.
Most Doctors Work Under Civil Contracts
The portal also reported on the employment structure of doctors at the hospital. The Provincial Specialist Hospital in Włocławek currently cooperates with 315 physicians.
Only 61 doctors are employed under standard employment contracts. As many as 245 work under civil-law contracts, while another nine cooperate under other forms of civil-law agreements.
Another Hospital Declined to Release the Data
Journalists from ddwloclawek.pl also attempted to determine how much doctors earn at the District Health Center (PCZ) on Szpitalna Street. However, the facility did not provide the requested information.
According to ddwloclawek.pl, the director of the District Health Center first asked whether the questions had been submitted as a press inquiry or as a request for access to public information. Two weeks later, the editorial team received another letter requesting detailed information about the registration of the media outlet, as well as confirmation that the person submitting the questions was employed by the newsroom or had been authorized to act on its behalf.
