Gdańsk’s Batman Heads to Court! Bizarre Explanation from Pomeranian Police

“Officers prepared the relevant documentation, which will be forwarded to the court along with requests for penalties,” informs the Pomeranian Police regarding Friday’s incident at the Long Market in Gdańsk. Michał Rachoń, programming director, criticized the double standards: “Pure absurdity and, unfortunately, Tusk’s Poland in a nutshell,” he wrote on X.

During Rafał Trzaskowski’s rally at Gdańsk’s Long Market, a man dressed as Batman appeared in the window of a nearby building displaying a banner reading “Anyone but Trzaskowski.” His act immediately attracted significant attention, including from law enforcement.

Several police officers burst into the apartment from which the man was protesting against Trzaskowski. The details of the intervention were described on the Pomeranian Police profile.

Batman Faces Court

Police stressed initially that their actions during Rafał Trzaskowski’s visit aimed to ensure safety for attendees and the peaceful course of the event.

“During the gathering, officers first identified 15 individuals who attempted to disrupt the event by hanging banners and behaving loudly as the candidate approached the stage. One of these individuals also ignored police orders. Later, officers intervened against three individuals who disrupted the event by displaying banners and shouting from a building window,” reads the police statement.

According to the police, the men’s behavior constituted a violation of Article 52 § 2 point 1 of the Polish Code of Petty Offenses (disruption of a legal gathering). Consequently, “officers prepared the relevant documentation, which will be forwarded to the court along with requests for penalties.”

Gdańsk police concluded their statement by dismissing accusations of excessive zeal towards critics of the Civic Coalition candidate:

“Police actions are independent of the political sympathies of event participants—our duty is to ensure the safety of all citizens and uphold the right to participate in legal public events.”

However, the police’s stringent response to critics of Trzaskowski was highlighted by Michał Rachoń, who recalled an incident three days earlier when police escorted masked drivers in a vehicle equipped with loudspeakers intended to disrupt the debate in Końskie:

“Ten police officers storm into a hotel in Gdańsk to detain Batman. According to the police, his banner allegedly disrupted a public gathering—Trzaskowski’s rally. Three days ago, the Polish police escorted masked individuals driving a car equipped with sound equipment aimed at drowning out the debate in Końskie. The statement by the Pomeranian Police regarding Batman is pure absurdity and, unfortunately, reflects Tusk’s Poland perfectly.”
