German Police near Warsaw. What Are They Doing Here?

On Friday, May 16, one of TV Republika’s readers sent photographs taken at the Łęka Motorway Service Area on the A2 motorway, in the direction of Warsaw. The images clearly show two marked German police vehicles parked among trucks.

The sight of German law enforcement officers at a Polish motorway rest area may raise eyebrows. While cross-border cooperation is not unprecedented—for instance, in the form of joint patrols near the Polish-German border—the presence of such vehicles nearly 300 kilometers from that border prompts legitimate questions.

This is particularly pertinent because the issue concerns more than just the presence of two foreign police cars. In a country that endured brutal occupation, terror, and German violence during the 20th century, symbols such as the German uniform carry a certain historical weight. These associations are, without doubt, far from positive.

It remains unclear whether this was an intervention, a police convoy, or perhaps merely a stop as part of an internal operational mission. Republika awaits an official explanation.
