Tomasz Grodzki, a senator from Civic Platform (PO), commented on voter participation in the presidential election by referring to those who supported Rafał Trzaskowski as “normal people.” This statement raises questions about how the politician views voters who supported Karol Nawrocki. Surprisingly, even a journalist from the soon-to-be-dissolved TVP Info posed this very question.
Chaos Continues in the December 13 Coalition
Rafał Trzaskowski’s defeat has caused turmoil within the December 13 coalition. Although Donald Tusk’s government secured a vote of confidence yesterday, it has done little to stabilize the ruling camp. For some politicians, it has only exacerbated internal tensions.
The “Elite” on Nawrocki’s Voters
Unfortunately, some members of this political bloc appear unable to accept their candidate’s loss, resorting to open attacks not only on the president-elect but also on his supporters.
Such was the case with Tomasz Grodzki, senator from PO.
A video circulating on social media shows the Civic Platform politician enthusiastically stating that Rafał Trzaskowski’s voters are “normal people.” This comment casts doubt on how he views the rest of the electorate—specifically, the majority who backed Karol Nawrocki. And Grodzki was asked precisely that—unexpectedly—by a journalist from the liquidated TVP Info.
“Over 10 million people placed their trust in us. I would describe them as ‘normal people.’ That creates a significant obligation when it comes to the campaign—to reflect on what could have been done differently, better,”
– said Grodzki.
Justyna Dobrosz-Oracz, a journalist generally sympathetic to the ruling coalition, asked in response:
“Normal? So those who voted for Nawrocki aren’t normal? Isn’t this kind of divisive rhetoric typical of PiS?”
To which Grodzki replied:
“No, this isn’t division. I’m speaking in positive terms. I’m not judging Mr. Nawrocki’s voters, but I am proud that over 10 million Poles believed Rafał Trzaskowski was the better choice.”
That says it all.
