During a conversation between Sławomir Mentzen and Rafał Trzaskowski, the candidate of the Civic Coalition, the very first moments brought… shocking declarations. It turns out that Trzaskowski supports the liquidation of TVP Info, is willing to participate in the Independence March, and… won’t sign whatever Prime Minister Donald Tusk tells him to.
The much-anticipated conversation between Sławomir Mentzen and Rafał Trzaskowski began today at 7:00 PM. In a short segment consisting of yes-or-no questions, Trzaskowski gave answers that surprised many.
“Shut down TVP Info!”
The segment featured five quick questions, the first of which addressed the future of the public news channel TVP Info. Trzaskowski’s response was unexpected:
“I was in favor of shutting down TVP Info. I believe it could be shut down because every government wants to use it as a propaganda tool. I would shut it down,” he declared.
But the surprises didn’t end there. The next question was whether he would take part in the Independence March, an annual event on Poland’s National Independence Day. It’s worth noting that for years, the City of Warsaw—governed by Trzaskowski—has been accused of opposing the march and its participants. Members of the “13 December Coalition,” which Trzaskowski is part of, have often used derogatory terms to describe those taking part—such as “neo-Nazis.”
Nevertheless, Trzaskowski responded:
“Will you join me? Will we all go? I hope there’ll be an opportunity for all of us to take part in the march, yes.”
President and Prime Minister from the Same Party? No Problem!
When asked if he still stood by his previous statement that “the worst thing that can happen is having the president and the prime minister from the same party,” Trzaskowski backpedaled:
“No, because the situation is entirely different now, and I’ll explain why.”
He added:
“The difference is that Andrzej Duda signs everything Jarosław Kaczyński gives him. I won’t sign everything.”
